Re-man (Part-1)

Genre : Super Hero
Story :
A holy church, filled with joy and applause was witnessing a marriage. A fatherless boy, the youngest billionaire of the city is going to get married.

Father – “Brad Clayfield, do you accept Jenny to be your wife and that you will look after through times of turmoil and uncertainty”
Brad – “I do”
Jenny’s face became red with happiness. She is going to marry the one she loved since her child hood.
Father – “And now Jenny, do you take Brad to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Jenny – “Yes, I do”
Father – “Now you may kiss the bride”

The crowd stood, clapping their hands, each one remembering their own marriage as Brad hugged Jenny. Then he gave her a romantic kiss lifting the aura of many young girls present there.

The days rolled by. Jenny didn’t know how it happened but it’s all like a dream and went very fast. Honeymoon, passing the pregnancy test, her husband taking care of her like a small child, and now while she was in a Ward room feeling the birth pains, all these things flashed into her mind. She was into the tenth month of pregnancy and kept on screaming. Brad himself, wearing the outfit of surgeon stood beside her, giving comfort that nothing would happen and everything would go fine.

Two months ago, doctor told him that his wife has some major disease, which they identified just then. That she would die after giving birth to a child. Brad went into a rage, slapping the doctor and making a scene. Then he took Jenny to another hospital. There also, the doctor told him the same thing adding that it was a common disease in pregnant woman, endangering the life of either mother or child. Brad requested to save Jenny, even if it takes to kill the child. The doctor told him, at an early stage, till the third month of pregnancy that would have been a possibility. But it’s already too late. Not letting Jenny know all these things, he himself used some medicines to delay the pregnancy. But he couldn’t stop it for long. Now that she is into the tenth month of pregnancy, it would give her a more painful death if he kept using medicines.

Now, Brad kept looking into her eyes imprinting each and every movement of her in his brain, since these are the things he is going to live by, for the rest of his life.

North Meets South (Part-2)

The same happiness is filled in another house in Andhra Pradesh. But here, it’s a girl who cleared the written test. Her parents were very happy. She is a somewhat shy girl, having lesser friends, but who don’t go out of touch at any point in their life. She gave a small treat to them in a local restaurant.

One month passed. According to their rank and order of preference, everyone has been assigned a NIT. Amala will be going into the NIT, which is 2000 Km away from home. Amala’s house was filled with anxiety

Mother – “Till now, she stayed with us. To send her that much distance. I won’t. We don’t have anyone in the neighbourhood. How can she live?”

Father – “No problem my dear. At some point of life, she has to go outside, meet new people and learn to be social. Why not now?”

Mother – “But, she is just a small girl”

Father – “Small girl. If anyone hears they will laugh at you. She is now eighteen. She has to know the world. Till now, she had seen it with our eyes. Let her see it with her own eyes”

Amala – “Please Mom. Please let me go. Please, please, please”

Mother – “Ok then”

Amala started jumping and dancing, hugged and kissed her Mom.

Mom – “But, if you don’t like it there, make sure you tell us about it. There are a lot many good colleges in our own neighbourhood. You needn’t worry about your future”

Amala with a confident poise – “I will definitely like it there Mom”

Don’t know whether it’s fate or coincidence, Montek also got into the same NIT. From now on, if I refer to NIT, it is this NIT, that both Amala and Montek were a part of. Although each one got a different branch(Major), in their first year, since they have common courses through out the university, they are able to sit in the same classroom.

An NRI also, from UAE, got into the same college. Her name was Diana.

NIT has internal hostels in it. All the girls are assigned one hostel, and boys being large in number are spread across seven different hostels. In first year, boys have to stay in a six seater room. These are the Montek’s room mates

Dan – This guy is from south. He wears spects and is very lean and geeky

Upman – This guy hails from UP. Never studied in a co-ed college before

Modi – Fattest guy of the room

Sheravan – A little less fat than Modi. He is from the same state in which NIT is situated

Akhil – Shortest guy of our room

And finally our

Montek – You know about him. A Sikh with a beard

The main protagonists were Amala and Montek, the rest were supportive actors. They come and go, as and when needed.

North Meets South (Part-1)

Before I start this story, I want to introduce some terms to the foreign readers so that they wouldn’t have to google while reading the story.

NIT – stands for National Institute of Technology. This is the status given to 21 colleges that are spread across 20 states in India. These are the deemed universities whose entrance happens through a written test called AIEEE. It is impossible to enter it by giving donation for an Indian. It’s purely based on merit. Many people in India, dream to enter it, but only some make it through. Only one in every fifteen students could enter it. Foreign students can directly join these institutes, but they have to pay a double fee, which is very less, compared to many American universities.

Sardar – Some sects of Sikhs are called Sardars. But in India, we call every Sikh a Sardar

Punjab, Andhra Pradesh  - Two states in India

Let’s dive into the story now.

Story:

Montek singh’s house is filled with extreme happiness. He cleared AIEEE with a good rank. He got an All India Rank of 8259. He could now, get into one of the top-5 NITs. The house’s telephone kept ringing, with the calls of relatives congratulating the 18 year old with a tone of jealousy which is obvious in their voices. Montek’s mobile is filled with messages and calls. He couldn’t help his weakness to not being rude to anyone. He was patiently answering all the calls, replying each and every message. In the meantime, one of his friends, who always gets good marks compared to Montek called him

Friend – “Hey Montek, Is it true? What I am hearing? Did you clear the AIEEE with the rank I just heard?”

Montek – “Yes.”

Friend – “Did you really get a rank of 8259?”

Montek – “Yes,”

Friend – “Are you sure?”

Montek – “yeah, I am sure”

Friend – “Did you check it twice?”

Montek – “I checked it five times. I am 100% sure”

Friend – “Ohh! Damn man, I couldn’t get a rank of below 10,000”

Montek – “How much you got?”

Friend –“I got 11,001”

Montek – “What’s the difference? More or less we may get into the same NIT”

Friend – “No man, you don’t understand. I have to get a rank of below 2000. I strongly feel there is some mistake in evaluation. I mean, how come people who study lesser than me, could get a better rank”

Montek – “Chill man. Look, you cannot change, what has already happened. You got a very good rank. You are still better than ten lakh other people who gave the test. Be happy, give a party to your friends. Enjoy man”

Friend – “The computer might not have scanned my paper correctly. Dude, is there any reevaluation that we can apply, so that our answer sheet gets scanned again?”

Montek – “I don’t know. I don’t think there will be anything like that”

Friend – “Do you know exactly that nothing like that exists? Are you sure?”

Montek – “Bhai, I don’t know. You can give a mail to the board of examinations and ask them”

Friend – “Oh, forgot about it. Ok then, congratulations dude. Bye”

Montek – “Hey, I am giving a party in the evening. CafĂ© Coffee day, all our friends will be coming. Are you free?”

Friend – “I am a bit busy dude. I need to send mail to the board. Await for reply. Actually, I don’t know how to show my face to our friends”

Montek – “Ar, a mail takes a second to send. And there is nothing to be ashamed of. Except me, every one of our friends got a rank, lesser than you”

Friend – “Really, I thought along with you that Shreya also  got past me”

Montek – “She got a rank of 15000. Now, will you come for the party?”

Friend – “I know I will get past her. Cool dude. I need to see her face today. She always thought that she could defeat me in the final exam”

At this Montek got pissed. But his politeness wouldn’t allow him to react strong,

Montek – “So are you coming?”

Friend – “Sure. Give me a call, before leaving home“

Montek – “Ok”

All this was happening in a small town in Punjab, where Montek’s house is situated.

Held (Part-3)

Filled with happiness and joy, Dan and Lilly came home. The very same night, doctor confirmed that Lilly is pregnant. Cheerfulness filled in the entire house of Dan. That night, Dan gave leave for the servants working at his home. He also gave money to enjoy the night and come back to work, the next day. Dan also went out to bring flowers for Lilly.

The house was empty, except for Lilly. Lilly was stretching herself in the bed room, reading a book. She heard a crackle; the sound of the main door getting opened. Must be Dan she thought and started acting as if she were sleeping. The bed room door opened, she didn’t open her eyes. The person who came in, with a gunshot made sure she never opens them again.

When Dan came home he saw that the main door was left open. He immediately ran to the bed room. Lilly was there, with her eyes closed and a red mark on her forehead. It was a head shot. Dan couldn’t bear it

Why now? What kind of father wants his daughter dead?

As he was talking to himself, he saw in the mirror infront of him, a gun behind his head. He immediately bent down, let the shot fly and within this time lap made the person holding the gun fall to the ground. He beat him up. Anon, he tied his hands. Dan then, called the police and handed him over to them. But he refused to answer anything that the police were asking. He was dumb with shock. It was raining outside. He took his rain coat, his hat and started walking into the forest area which is in the outskirts of the village.

As he was walking, something knocked from outside to enter his mind. He gave it permission

Why did I run always? Why didn’t I try to solve the problems? Why didn’t I fight back? What about the lives lost at the MIRACLE? Why didn’t I stand up as a witness to bring peace to their souls? And now, why didn’t I try to take the help of the lawyers and police to help them, so that they could arrest Lilly’s father? It’s my life. And I should not keep submitting it. Enough has happened. I should not run away like a weakling.

He didn’t waste time. He went back to his home. The police were still present there, collecting evidence. He told them the whole matter; about the eloping, the circumstances that lead to it. And why no other person, other than Lilly’s father could have given the order for the killing. He hired a good lawyer, and also made the files of the fire accident at the MIRACLE - Home for the destitute to be reopened.

After the hearings, Lilly’s father was arrested and sentenced to jail for fifteen years. The superintendent’s wife also got arrested. They arrested the Superintendent too, for the perjury of misguiding the law about the cause of fire.

Dan never married another woman. He stayed in the village for the rest of his life, making the people to know the rights and fight back, if injustice had been caused to them. A TV reporter once asked him,

“Why didn’t you try to kill the people who did injustice to you? “

“Let me tell you one thing first, I don’t hate anyone so much as to kill him; even the person, who murdered my wife. There may be several reasons why a person does any crime or injustice. He may be desperate of something. The things that may appear right to him may appear wrong to us. But looking in his perspective may be sometimes he is right. A person who steals because he is hungry is not a robber. Truthfully, no one in this world is completely righteous. A criminal may not stay as criminal for his whole life. May be they will do some jail time, and then, may be they will change. Who knows? But, not giving them a second chance makes us no different from the butchers of mankind. I don’t want to be like that. Also, I am helping people to get justice, so that others could get inspired from me and do the same”

“Do you think all these activities are heroic for people to get inspired?”

 “Yeah, sure”

“But a hero should at least kill a dozen men”

“Well, this is a new form of heroism and I am the new age Held(Dutch)”

Held (Part-2)

Before leaving town, Dan took Lilly to a hospital and the wounds were soothed with ointments and bandages. Then on the same night, he left the town by train.

The train was mostly empty. When the train started moving, Dan felt like they were the only ones in the compartment. Dan sat near the window and he did not let Lilly sit; instead, he let her sleep on his lap. As the train wheels jerked into faster motion, he caught her shoulder for the fear that she might roll down. Holding her, he was looking outside, into the darkness.

Lilly - "Dan"
Dan - "Yes, darling"
Lilly - "Is it because of the wounds that you are not looking at me ?"
Dan - "No, my dear"
Lilly - "Then why are you looking outside ?"
Dan - "Go to sleep"
Lilly - "You didn't answer my question. Tell me why ?"
Dan looking into Lilly's eyes - "I was looking outside so that you would go to sleep, and forget the pain being caused by your wounds"

Dan with a smile - "Any girl wouldn't try to torture her boyfriend on the first day of eloping"
Lilly smiling- "It will always be like this, not just today"
Dan - "Yeah, what ever it is, that goes into each one of our minds about other, it should be expressed and clarified"
Lilly beaming with joy - "Rather than fuming inside oneself, and getting filled with prejudices"

Anon, Dan kissed her on the fore head. Lilly looking at Dan, slowly went to sleep. Dan also slept after some time, sitting. Morning came, and both opened eyes at the same time. They did not leave the train, but travelled one more day, so that they would get very far away from Lilly's father. On the next day, they got down and went into a village, where the train stopped. Dan wouldn't know it, but it's the same village where he was initially taken from. With the money he had, he took a house for rent and at the back part of that house, started an Electrical shop. The village situation was same as when Dan's uncle took him away, during his childhood.

The villagers had to go ten miles to another city, if one of their motors stops working, paying a lot more than what is required to pay had they lived in cities. Also, if there is a power cut due to some transformer problem, they would have to wait for a minimum of five days, for the power to be restored. With Dan's arrival, the situation changed. With his dexterity, he used to handle all those problems. Also, Dan used to take very less amounts of money, and if one of the farmers couldn't pay the amount, he used to postpone the payment to a later date. With in a few months, everyone in the city knew Dan, and Dan also trained some of the village youth so that they would share his work. Also, till Lilly's wounds got healed, Dan used to do all the house hold chores. After one and half year, Lilly was completely fine doing the house hold chores herself, and Dan bought the house where he was staying for rent.

The village head observed as all the good things started happening in the village. One fine day, he invited Dan for a Luncheon along with Lilly.

Head - "Dan, I am really happy for you to be here"
Dan - "oh ! It's my pleasure"
Head - "Without you, this village would not have been what it is, today. Very thank you"
Dan - "I should thank you first and your villagers. Even though I am an outsider, you gave me a place to stay, and trusted me in business"
Head - "Just a bit curious, if it bothers you, you needn't tell me. So, where are you from ? Who are your parents ?"
Dan - "No problem. There is nothing to hide for me among the people like you. I don't know about my parents, but as far as I remember, I was left at the home for the destitute, where the superintendent there raised me for some time"
The Head gasped - "Is it MIRACLE - Home for the destitute ? I mean, the place where you were left ?"
Dan - "Yes, it is"
Head - "And you left it when you were 16 years old ?"
Dan - "How do you"

Dan did not complete the question, while the Head's eyes were filled with tears

Head - "You belong to this village. The one who left you there was your uncle. After the death of your parents, he promised to provide you with good education. Taking you along with  all the property of your parents, he left the city. We inquired about you a lot of times sending letters and some times even people, but he gave only absurd replies. There is some land in the village that belonged to your father, but hadn't been sold. The documents of that land were with your uncle. One day he came to the village, and started showing that land to some corporate guy. We caught him, and inquired about you. When he didn't give a commendable answer, we beat him up; He then, revealed that he left you at MIRACLE. Then, we handed him over to the police. We talked with the superintendent of MIRACLE and anon searched for you, but couldn't get you.  It's a miracle that we found you now"
Dan, being filled with joy, taking huge breaths looked at Lilly and then at the Village head's face
Dan - "Finally, I know where I am from, I will be telling my children about their grand parents"

On the other side, Lilly's father got the location of Dan and Lilly. He gave orders for an assassin to kill both of them

Held (Part-1)

Before word : This is one of the fastest screenplays I have written, so don't even think of skipping a line (You may miss a month or year doing so). Also, this story will be simultaneously published at my other blog ( http://dileepwrites.wordpress.com )

Story :
A man was walking on a rainy day in a forest. He was six foot tall with an angular face and athletic physique. He was walking with clenched fists thumping the ground with his boots. He wore a rain coat that covered his body entirely and an Indiana Jones hat. As he was walking listening to the sound of rain drops he remembered how unlucky his life was since beginning.

Dan was the only child for his parents. His father was a well known landlord in the village. His parents, used to tell him, and also the whole village, that Dan will study in a city to become a big engineer. They died when he was eight years old, leaving him alone. His uncle, a long distant relative came to take care of him. He behaved like a good man with the villagers and a villager on one occasion revealed the dream of Dan’s parents for him. So, on one fine day, he assembled all villagers and told them, that he is going to sell all the property of Dan’s parents, take him to a city and make him study there using that money. Some villagers came forward to buy the property, some even took it for a higher cost than the original rate, thinking that it would do good to a fatherless boy. Dan’s uncle, carefully planning all the things, bid Vaarwel to the villagers. Fearing that the villagers might track him, he took Dan to another state. Leaving him at the door step of home for  the destitutes; telling that he would return in a minute, he disappeared. Dan, after waiting a long time there, went inside. The superintendent of that home, after asking Dan of his whereabouts and not reaching a conclusion, took him inside, fed him and made him work like the rest of the children.

There, Dan used to do all the work that is assigned to him without complaining. His dexterity in doing the tasks and his impeccable nature helped him gain the confidence of the superintendent. The superintendent, started sending him to a near by school. Dan used to study very hard and after completing his school work, used to continue his other works at the home just like the rest of the children. The superintendent’s wife is a very greedy woman and she didn’t like her husband, doing social service working at a lesser wage at that aisle. After many unsuccessful attempts to change the mind of her husband, she once went to hostel, switched on the gas, closed it’s doors and started fire. The screams of the children inside the home couldn’t move her, neither the passers by on the streets. Even though it happened in broad day light, everyone is busy, watching their wrists and moving stead fast. Neither the superintendent nor Dan were present in the home at that time. When Dan came from school that evening, he saw the home incinerated. He went to the superintendent’s home, but his wife wouldn’t let him inside, nor let her husband see him. She scolded him – “You looted our wealth for your schooling”. Dan not withstanding her words, went far away from that place to another city. He is now sixteen years old.

He worked for a Electrician in that city. The electrician was an old man with no children. He let Dan, stay with him in his house. After two years, the electrician became sick and started staying at home. Dan used to care of the shop and also, the old man when he went home. After an year the old man died leaving him the shop. Dan, who is good at making friends, made the road side children his friends and made them learn the work. Later they started working with him. He worked very hard to sustain himself among the already established electricians. His hardwork didn’t go waste. His diligence gained many new customers in the next five years, than did the old man in his entire life. He is now twenty four years old. His rep in that place increased and every one in that city respected him, since they witnessed his raise which is enigmatic to see in real life.

One fine morning, as he was checking the accounts in his shop, a young lady came in. Dan’s pulse rose as he watched her striding from the threshold towards him. She came near and told him that there is some problem with the water motor at their home and requested him to send some one. Dan telling her that he handled problems of that kind himself, went to her home and made it right. Later on they used to greet each other when ever they came across. When ever there is a problem with in the locality of that lady, Dan used to personally go and look after the problem. Soon they became good friends and started exchanging gifts. One day Dan took her to a candle light dinner and proposed her there. She let him put the ring to her hand. After coming home, her dad inquired about the ring. She told her dad, about her love. Her father became furious, since Dan didn’t even go to college while his daughter went to Business school. He scolded her and told her to forget him. When Lilly refused to do so, he beat her like a beast. He kept her in a room and locked it. He didn’t let anyone inside, not even her mom and also any food till she apologizes to him. Still sore with wounds, she some how escaped and went to Dan. Dan, after seeing her in that situation and also knowing the money power of Lilly’s father, abandoned his shop, his home and all the intangible assets he gained and left the city with the money he saved till then.

A Small Message

I originally used to write stories in another blog. Stopped writing at the nigh of 2010 due to some unforeseen circumstances. I promised to go back from the January of 2012. In order to do rehearsals before writing the stories there, I used this blog. Will try to update this one also, when time permits. But for now, go to my original blog, which I will update once in a week
